Darla (Hannan) Waters
Class of 2000
Two time state track champion in 100 meters (1999 & 2000).
State champion in 200 meters in 2000.
Finished 1st in 100 & 200 meters in 41 races in 1999 & 2000
Named Southern Illinoisan Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2000
Holds school records for 100 meters (12.30 seconds), 200 meters (25.60 seconds), and 400 meters (58.14 seconds).
Finished 2nd in State in 200 meters in 1999 and 3rd in State in the 400 meters in 2000.
Signed track scholarship with Southeast Missouri State University.

Thomas K. Cole
Coach & Athletic Director
VHS baseball coach 1973-1982 with 239-81 Win-Loss Record.
Coached 1978 team to 3rd place state tourney finish and 34-4 record.
Won 2 South Egyptian Conference Championships, 2 District Titles, 1 Regional, & 1 Sectional Championship.
Named to Southern Illinois Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
VHS Athletic Director for 25 years (1978-2003)
Played Professional baseball in St. Louis Cardinals Organization
Outstanding VHS Physical Education teacher from 1972 to 2004.

Chester Lawrence
Class of 1966
VHS men's all time landing scorer with 1897 pts. (1963-66)
Most points in 1 season with 781 in 1965-1966.
Most points in 1 game with 51 in 1965-1966.
Attended University of Kansas on basketball scholarship.
Holds top 3 season scoring averages (64-65-66 seasons).
Led team to school record 24 wins in 65-66 season.
Respected Vienna businessman and lifelong supporter of VHS athletics.

John T. Cherry
Class of 1949
Great ambassador for VHS athletics having been described as the one who had the most passion for basketball.
3 year varsity starter: captained the '49 team with a 23-3 record.
VHS track athlete who won the half mile and the mile run in every dual and triangular meet his junior and senior years.
Attended U of Alabama on a basketball scholarship (captain and assists leader of freshman team in 1950). Starter and leading scorer in first varsity game as a sophomore.
Transferred to Southern Illinois University and started as a playmaking guard.
Coached Carbondale High School to 2nd place in State in 1967 and defeated three teams rated #1 at one time or another. 10 year career at Carbondale High School.
Carbondale Citizen of the Year 2004.

Lisa (Ross) Miller
Class of 1993
VHS Women's All Time Leading Scorer with 1390 pts. (1989-1993).
4 Year starter in basketball and softball.
Led basketball team to Sweet 16 in 1993 with 24-4 record and 4 year record of 80 wins and 29 losses.
Softball team was 136 wins and 38 losses during her 4 years with 1 trip to State Quarterfinals.
Hold school record for most assists in a season (170) and career (510).
Holds career softball record for most games played (170).
Named All South in basketball and softball her Junior and Senior year.
