The
Vienna High School Madrigal performances were on December 16th
and 17th. The cast, dressed in period
costumes, portrayed participators in a royal Christmas feast. The
Madrigal included a dinner, skit, and concert. The Madrigal began
with the Wassail Toast and Boar’s Head Carol. After the meal,
guests were treated to a small skit and dances with the cast. The
skit, "Handel and Gretzky-A Tale of Two Kiddies," is a take- off of
"Hansel and Gretel." The concert featured six medieval songs, sung
in English, Portuguese, and Italian. The singers ended the
performance with Silent Night and the jester bid the audience
farewell. The cast practiced three days a week, and every day the
week of the performance.
Lisa
Riley, a Junior, said, "I think this Madrigal went awesome. We all
did a great job. The Madrigal is a fun and great experience."
Laura Treat, a Senior,
commented, "I like spending hundreds of hours with the people I love
most, dressing up in the crazy costumes, setting up in not enough
time, and, of course, doing the boy’s makeup. Considering all the
setbacks we had, I’d say that this was our most successful year. The
dedication the 22 of us put out was really nice. I really am sorry
for those that quit or never tried out. They had no idea about all
the fun they missed out on!" Ms. Brown, the band director, said,
"The Madrigal was amazing. The students put forth a lot of effort."
